Gipsy Swing
Katica Illényi and the Swing De Gitanes

Katica Illényi and one of the best-known jazz bands of the Middle East join forces for the first time on September 7 at the Hegedűs Gyula Street Synagogue!

The violinist Katica Illényi - Hungarian Artist of Merit, holder of the Liszt and Artisjus prizes, will give a joint jazz concert with the Swing De Gitanes ensemble from Israel. The group is one of the best-known jazz bands in the Middle East in the gypsy-jazz, Django Reinhardt genre. After many international concerts, they will perform in Budapest for the first time.

They met Katica Illényi for the first time in 2014 on a joint tour of Israel, performed together in the larger cities and then gave three concerts in Tel Aviv to full houses. In 2015 they gave a concert in the synagogue in Szeged. Their programme is just as unique in the world as is the formation itself: a performance by three Israeli musicians and a Hungarian violinist, which has merited outstanding attention in Israeli cultural life, from both the public and the profession.
