Omara Portuondo, the living legend of Cuban music, at the age of 94, will say her final goodbye to the stage in Budapest on October 6. The decision was announced by her son and management after her Barcelona concert, a choice influenced by Omara's health condition. The shining star of the globally celebrated Buena Vista Social Club will perform for the last time on this special night at the Papp László Sportaréna. This concert will not only be a fitting conclusion to Omara's illustrious musical career but also an unforgettable, historic moment where the audience can see and hear the grande dame of Cuban music live one last time. The evening will be a heartfelt and emotional tribute to a career that revived and introduced the magic of Cuban music to the world.

We are pleased to announce that Omara Portuondo, the legendary figure of Cuban music, will  

-HOMENAJE AL BUENAVISTA SOCIAL CLUB- in Budapest on October 6, 2024, in front of Hungarian fans. Omara was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1930, and over the past decades, she has become not only an icon of Cuban music but also of world music. As a prominent figure in the "filin" genre, Portuondo captured audiences with her style blending classic American torch songs and Cuban-influenced jazz. In 1997, at the age of 67, she made her debut in the United States at Carnegie Hall as the award-winning Buena Vista Social Club's sole female member. Since then, through her worldwide tours, she has introduced herself to the world and garnered the admiration of new generations.


The diversity of the Cuban singer's career was inspired by her parents and sister, Haydee. Despite challenging political shifts and hurdles, Omara Portuondo persevered and further enriched the musical traditions with her solo career. The Buena Vista Social Club project, brought together by American guitarist and producer Ry Cooder, gave her career new momentum. Their successful film and album brought her international recognition, and in the subsequent years, she received numerous awards and accolades.


Her latest album, "Vida," won a Latin Grammy Award and received a nomination for the American Grammy Award as well. During the 2024 tour, Omara Portuondo plans to conquer various parts of the world, including Spain, the United States, and notably Hungary, proving that music is universal and knows no boundaries. The artist is currently working on a new album, scheduled to be released this spring.


Omara Portuondo, as a Latin music icon, represents the embodiment of Cuban music and the Cuban way of life for multiple generations. The Budapest concert offers a unique opportunity for fans to get to know her up close and enjoy the legendary singer's farewell performance live. We will hear some of the greatest songs of her career, which evoke the richness and diversity of Cuban music, and also experience the Latin atmosphere where the magic of music and the enchanting world of Cuban culture converge, as passion and deep emotions have always played a central role in her artistry.

The concert is organized by the Green Stage Production office, whose motto is:
