When it was announced in September 2013 that Conchita Wurst would be representing Austria at the next Eurovision Song Contest, the national and international media coverage was overwhelming. A bearded woman at the song contest? But Conchita Wurst is far more than that! Wurst has repeatedly demonstrated her vocal abilities in various Austrian TV shows, where she consistently made it into the finals with the audience vote. And Conchita Wurst also stands for values such as tolerance, acceptance and respect for people who are different – values which are still anything but a matter of course in our modern world.
